What house clearance involves
A house clearance is the emptying of a property, from one room to the whole building, including the loft, the garage, the shed and the garden if that is what is needed. We take out furniture, appliances, carpets, bedding, boxes and everything that has quietly gathered over the years, then sort it for reuse, recycling or disposal. Across Eastbourne and East Sussex we handle the lifting, the loading and the paperwork, so you are not hiring a van and a skip and spending your weekend on it.
Most clearances take a day. A larger property, or one that has been lived in for decades, may take two. We will tell you which when we look round, and the price we give you is the price you pay.
When people usually call us
After a bereavement. Clearing a parent’s home is not really a practical job at all, and we try to treat it accordingly. We work at whatever pace suits the family, set aside anything you want kept rather than assuming, and are very happy for someone to be there throughout or for nobody to be there at all. If probate is still going through, we can wait.
Downsizing or moving on. Moving into something smaller, or into care, usually means a house full of things that will not fit. We clear what is going and leave what is coming with you.
Landlords and agents. Tenants leave belongings behind more often than anyone would like. We clear the property, then clean it ready for the next let, which is usually quicker and cheaper than arranging the two separately.
Properties that have got on top of somebody. We do this work regularly and we do it without comment or judgement. If a home has become difficult to manage, we would simply rather help than have anyone feel awkward about asking.
Where everything ends up
Very little of a house clearance actually needs to go to landfill, and we would rather it did not. Furniture and household goods in usable condition go to reuse wherever we can arrange it. Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are separated for recycling. Anything left is taken to a licensed transfer station, and you can check any carrier, including ours, on the Environment Agency public register.
We carry waste under the appropriate waste carrier registration and can provide a waste transfer note for the load, which matters if you are a landlord, an agent or an executor and need a record of where things went.
Smaller jobs, single rooms, a garage or one van load are often better suited to our Waste Removal & Clearance service, and we will happily point you to whichever works out better value.
