What student let cleaning involves
Student let cleaning is the turnaround of a shared house or licensed HMO between one group of tenants and the next, and it is a very particular kind of job. The whole intake tends to move out inside the same fortnight, the property has usually had six or eight people living hard in it for a year, and the next group are often signed up before the last ones have gone. We clean student lets across Sussex to that timetable, with the teams and the equipment to do a full house in a day rather than stretching it across a week you do not have.
A standard turnaround takes in every bedroom, the kitchen, all bathrooms, communal areas, the oven and appliances, the insides of all cupboards and wardrobes, windows internally, and the bins and outside areas that always need attention by the end of the year.
Why student houses need a different approach
A family home is cleaned regularly and needs maintaining. A student house is usually cleaned thoroughly twice a year and needs recovering, which is a different job with different products and considerably more time.
Kitchens take the worst of it, with ovens, extractor filters, grill pans and the gaps beside appliances all needing stripping rather than wiping. Bathrooms in shared houses build limescale and mould far faster because they are in use most of the day. Bedrooms need blu tack marks, poster residue and carpet stains dealing with before an inventory clerk sees them. None of that is difficult, it simply takes people who have done it before and know where to look.
Working to the summer deadline
The whole student calendar squeezes into a few weeks, and everybody in the sector is trying to book the same fortnight. We take student let bookings well ahead and hold the dates, so if you know your tenancies end in the first week of July, tell us in the spring and the slot is yours.
We can work around partial move outs, which is the thing most cleaning companies struggle with. If three of six rooms are empty, we will do those rooms and the communal areas now and come back for the rest, rather than making you wait until the house is finally clear and running out of time before the new tenancy starts.
