Getting your home ready for Christmas guests

If you are getting your home ready for Christmas guests, Smart Services can take several of the bigger cleaning jobs off your list. We are a team of eleven based in Eastbourne and working across East Sussex, and below we go through the oven, the carpets, a deep clean, regular visits, clearing clutter and the outside of the house, along with how to book each one.

Start with the oven

Our oven cleaning is a full strip down rather than a wipe over. We take the oven apart, door included, so we can reach the inner glass, and the racks, trays, shelves and liners go into a heated tank to soak while the inside is treated by hand.

Once it is back together the oven can be used straight away, with no fumes and no smell when the first roast goes in. A single oven usually takes two to three hours, a double oven or a range a little longer, and we are happy to get on with it while you are out.

The hob, extractor and microwave

We clean gas, ceramic and induction hobs, lifting off burnt sugar and boiled over pans without scouring the surface. Extractor hoods are cleaned and the filters degreased or replaced, which is worth doing because a blocked filter pushes cooking smells back into the room and through the rest of the house.

Microwaves, grills, warming drawers, trim and handles can all be done on the same visit, and booking them alongside the oven works out cheaper than separate visits.

Range cookers and Agas take longer by hand, so we quote them separately. If an oven is old, badly fitted or has a tired seal, we will tell you first, and Electrical Safety First is a good starting point if it needs an electrician.

Carpets, rugs and upholstery

Carpets are one of the jobs to think about when getting your home ready for Christmas guests. Our carpet cleaning covers carpets, stairs, rugs and upholstery, using hot water extraction, low-moisture cleaning or stain treatment depending on the fabric, and eco-friendly products that are safe for children and pets.

We rinse the products out and leave the carpet as dry as possible, and in many cases you can walk on it again the same day. We follow the standards set by the National Carpet Cleaners Association.

In town, our carpet cleaning in Eastbourne covers Meads, Old Town, Hampden Park and the rest of Eastbourne, and a carpet is usually something we can price over the phone.

A deep clean, room by room

A deep clean is the most thorough option for getting your home ready for Christmas guests. It goes far beyond a usual tidy, covering the places often missed day to day, under furniture, behind appliances, inside cupboards and along skirting boards, and it targets built-up grime, grease and dust.

Homeowners often book one to refresh the house after a busy season, and carpet cleaning or waste removal can be included in the same service. We bring all the equipment, use eco-friendly products wherever possible and offer flexible appointments that work around you.

Regular cleaning through December

If you would like the house kept guest-ready all month, our regular cleaning visits come weekly or fortnightly and cover kitchens, bathrooms, floors, dusting, beds and general tidying. We keep the same cleaner on your house wherever we can.

You can also add oven or carpet cleaning onto an existing booking, and we will fit it around your usual slot.

Clearing clutter and the outside of the house

Clutter can go too. We are fully licensed for waste removal and clearance, so single bulky items, garage clutter and full clear-outs are handled legally and responsibly.

Outside, salt air along the coast leaves a film on glass and frames. Our window cleaning in Eastbourne uses pure water that leaves no smears, and jet washing lifts moss and algae from driveways, patios and paths, which helps reduce slippery surfaces.

Outside work depends on the weather. If the forecast turns, we will ring you the day before and offer the next dry slot we have.
